I Understand, But What’s Really Important… (The Opinion Of One)

The NFL Trump Twitter War of differing views, kneeling players, and over the top opinionated talking head pundits got me thinking…

What’s REALLY important?

Hurricane Flood Relief! There are people still suffering on the Texas Gulf Coast and in southern Florida and the Keys! By the way, the over 3.5 million people in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are AMERICANS!!!!  And they are just now starting to get supplies, they have no electricity, there’s a dam that’s about to break and displace thousands ofpeople in western Puerto Rico, they are running short on water, gas and food and they have NO cellular service to let loved ones know they are ok!

40.6 million people live in poverty in the United States, one out of every 5 are children. Kids, actual children going hungry.

Health Care, each plan that has been introduced, has had somewhere between 20-25 million people losing their insurance. I know its a huge complex issue, but we have some of the smartest people here in the US. There needs to be an independent council put together, and let them make the recommendations to help fix and solve the health care issues in this country. With all due respect, but I don’t think politicians are qualified.

Education, our schools need help, our inner city schools REALLY NEED HELP! In the world, we are #14 in reading, 25th in math, and 17th in science. And as we continue on the path of a global marketplace, we need to be top 7, minimum!

Gun Violence, I believe in the 2nd amendment, I believe you should be able to own a gun. But something has to be done about mass shootings and automatic weapons being freely accessible. Someone find a solution! If someone put something on paper that looks like a good idea, and there is an effort to combat this issue, sign me up!

Division. Old wounds are reopening in this country, and it needs to stop. We need to highlight our similarities, not our differences. We need to find common ground, and more importantly, common community with one another.

Our Place in the World. Russia, North Korea, Iran. We are playing with torches and dynamite. We need to be the “leaders of the free world”, the ones that bring these things to a peaceful conclusion, not ratcheting up the pressure to make someone take action and possibly take lives.

Social Injustice. Yes it exists in OUR country. If you don’t believe that, you are seeing what YOU want to see. African Americans and Hispanics make up approximately 32% of the US population, they comprised 56% of all incarcerated people in 2015. Inner city crime happens because of social and economic isolation. It is a problem that NEEDS to be addressed.

That’s what’s important!

The topic of players peacefully protesting during the national anthem has been hijacked by many sides of the issue…

Started by Colin Kapernick the original intent was to protest events that happened in America over the several months leading up to his decision…

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

That’s what it was about… It wasn’t about disrespecting the flag, about the military, or protesting a president… Over the last 14 months, the pundits, the press, the left, the right, the President have changed it into something else…

This is my opinion, and as a country, we are WAY off track…
