So there’s a title… The last 2 weeks have been just that – celebrations, dreams and blessings! Follow along if you can, make it to the ending, it’s important… 🙂
2 weeks ago Kelly and I celebrated 25 years of marriage by renewing our vows! Kelly is the most unbelievable woman who walks the face of the earth! If you met her, you would agree, no question! I will continue to try to be a better husband and father to my very last day… #oldandgrey
Ephesians 5:25: “For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her.”
Then on Wednesday I spent 24 hours with my mom! She now, after many years living with her sons, has an apartment of her own and is loving her life! I am so very proud of the work she does with women fighting addiction through Alcoholics Anonymous!
Galatians 6:1-2 “Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Friday we launched the career of Brandon Lay at EMI Records! Just a simple dinner with some radio friends in Las Vegas. His first time meeting the “gate keepers”! Just step one on his journey of chasing his dream to become a country singer! This is why I am blessed in what I do, I get to be a small part of making someone’s dream come true! It’s an honor…
Saturday night we had a show with Eric Paslay at ACM Party for A Cause! ACM Lifiting Lives develops and funds music-related therapy, education programs, disaster relief / helping communities in need, music education in schools and music camps for those with disabilities! When you hear Eric do Less Than Whole and he rolls into Amazing Grace, you ARE at church! (Even in Vegas!) Eric’s faith is something that he shares proudly, in song, but more importantly in action!
1 Peter 4:10-11 “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
Sunday was Brothers Osborne winning not 1, but 2 ACM awards! You wanna talk about dreams coming true! These guys are on a path that just won’t stop! I am so very proud to be a small part of this journey with them! A couple of guys who came from Deale Maryland, and are now fulfilling their dreams of playing music! They are also the most humble, kind and generous people I have ever worked with in this crazy business!
Last Tuesday and Wednesday Kelly and I got away to celebrate our “25 years” in one of our favorite towns, New Orleans! Quick getaway vacation! The food, the art, the music! It was a perfect couple of days, except our flight was turned around back to Houston on our way to New Orleans! We lost an electrical generator, and the pilot made the decision to go back to the airport and not try to complete the flight… (There was some praying going on…)
Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Friday Night we flew to Wichita so I could work the sold out Eric Church show! Where I introduced Kelly to some of my favorite people in the business! Brian Jennings, Carol Hughes and Beverlee Brannigan! (We missed you Justin Case!) And talk about the dream coming true! Eric Church playing for a sold out 17K+! Eric has always done it his way, it’s not the easiest, but it’s his way! He’s built a career on doing what his heart tells him is right, when everyone else thinks it’s wrong… (Read Mr Misunderstood lyrics, it’s right there to hear). We have come a LONG way from Hell On The Heart and Love Your Love The Most… It’s such an overwhelming emotion when you hear the crowd sing Give Me Back My Hometown or Sinners Like Me louder than the band, it’s spiritual, it’s church, no other words for it…
On Saturday my friends at Mercury Records and Lauren Aliana scored her very first #1 record! Your first #1 is the sweetest and Lauren and this staff have been fighting for 6 years and five singles, never giving up and NEVER losing faith in her dream! This video says more about “the dream” than I ever could! This has NOTHING to do with me, but I am so proud of all of them, their dedication, their fight and their love for Aliana!
If all that wasn’t enough, on Sunday in our bible study, one of our classmate’s kids decided it was time to get baptized! What an unbelievable thing for a parent to experience! Kelly and I are blessed that it’s happened twice in our household, and it’s something that stays with you for the rest of your life….
Acts 2:38 ESV “And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
I am not telling you all this to be bragging about how great my life is. I have had plenty of struggles, heartbreak, challenges and nightmares in my life, but the last two weeks felt like blessing after blessing after blessing. There’s no other way to describe it! When you have those times in your life, you feel like shouting to the rooftops “THANK YOU GOD!” Thank you for this life that is not always perfect, not always easy and I know there are challenges ahead, but I am going to enjoy the last 2 weeks, and put some positive in the world by sharing what YOU have done for me with people in my life.
That’s part of what I have been called to do…
